Liverpool vs RB Salzburg Betting Tips (02/10/19) – Reds to Get Back to Winning Ways in the Champions League

- - Match Previews

That’s another stern test of our title credentials passed. Make no mistake: plenty of teams will flounder at Bramall Lane this season, where the Sheffield United fans are able to whip up a raucous atmosphere and make their opponent’s afternoon work rather difficult.

The Blades are a hard-working, well organised and tactically flexible outfit as well, and a fitting reflection of Chris Wilder’s managerial nous.

So there’s no great surprise that they gave us a tough assignment on Saturday, but wining at all costs is a measure of a true champion and Liverpool, by hook or by crook, did just that.

Yes, it took a ‘lucky’ goal from Gini Wijnaldum, whose soft shot was fumbled into his own net by the Sheffield United keeper Dean Henderson. But that should not take away from what was another diligent display from Klopp’s men.

“It was never a clicking day, it was an average day,” the manager said afterwards. “If it’s 0-0 we cannot moan and would not. But if there’s one winner it should be us.

“Winning in days like this is extremely worthy. We scored a lucky goal, we know that. But the boys worked so hard for it.”

The sign of a great champion is winning with their B Game, and that’s seven victories on the bounce for the Reds now. With Manchester City arguably looking fragile defensively, these next few weeks and months will be crucial as we look to force home our advantage at the summit of the Premier League.

We can park domestic matters temporarily as we head into our second Champions League fixture of the campaign. After defeat at Napoli, Wednesday’s clash with RB Salzburg has become of the upmost importance as we look to put points on the board.

Expect no let-up from the boys in what should be another pulsating European night at Anfield.

Liverpool Team News

We go again: that will basically be the message from Jurgen Klopp ahead of the date with the Austrians.

There’s no real need to change the starting eleven from the one that travelled to Sheffield at the weekend. No new injuries or knocks were picked up, and the balance is right: in midfield in particular, the trio of Fabinho, Henderson and Wijnaldum offers the right mix of brawn, brains and an ability to switch from defence to attack in a heartbeat.

Indeed, aside from the long-term absence of Nathaniel Clyne, there are no new injury concerns at all. Alisson and Xherdan Shaqiri will up their rehab soon, and both should be in contention after the next international break – a timely boost as we enter the packed early winter schedule.

Possible Liverpool Lineup Versus RB Salzburg on the 2nd October 2019

RB Salzburg Form

One of the most eye-catching results in the first round of matches was RB Salzburg’s demolition of Genk.

The Austrians romped into a 5-1 lead at half-time – it could have been more, by all accounts – before getting a tad complacent and settling for a 6-2 win.

Their attacking play was dynamic, quick and incisive, and we will have to especially watch out for Erling Braut Haaland – son of former Manchester City man Alf Inge – who notched a hat-trick against the Belgians.

Salzburg also adopt an aggressive high press, so our defenders and midfielders will need to be aware of the need to move the ball quickly to turn them around. If we can do that, there will be plenty of space to exploit.

Liverpool vs RB Salzburg Betting Tips

By making Liverpool their 1/3 favourites here, the bookmakers are paying short shrift to Salzburg’s efforts in the first round of continental matches.

Fair enough, perhaps, as every dog has its day, but don’t be surprised if the Austrians dish out a few more frights this season as well, such is their hard-running style.

As it goes, we do expect Liverpool to win this game, and that’s because a high tempo affair really does suit us at Anfield in particular.

And we think there could be goals too, especially if Salzburg’s young squad freezes in the headlights.

There’s not a great deal for punters to work with here, although the 8/13 about a Liverpool Win & Over 2.5 Goals certainly does have some merit.

If you want to enhance your excitement of the game, Anytime Goalscorer plays on Trent Alexander-Arnold (5/1) and Virgil van Dijk (6/1) will certainly keep you interested at set pieces!
