Gerrard. Suarez. Sterling. Sturridge. Outrageous talents moulded into an (almost) unstoppable force by Brendan Rodgers, who nearly guided the Reds to their first title of the Premier League era.

But there’s another individual who deserves plenty of credit for nearly ending the club’s long wait for the best of the domestic honours – not that you’d recognise him if he walked past you in the street.

Will Premier League Titles Be Stripped from Man City and Handed to Liverpool?

Red Plus with Blue MinusAlthough the two clubs have a famous rivalry, you can imagine that plenty of Liverpool FC fans have sympathy with their Merseyside foe Everton.

The Toffees have been hit with a ten-point deduction over financial irregularities at the club, which has seen their good start to the 2023/24 season effectively ruled null and void as the sanction takes them back into the relegation zone.

It’s possible that Everton will survive the drop anyway, but there’s is a punishment that reeks of double standards considering the madcap transfer spending of the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea over the years.

How Seasons Ending In Years 3/4 Have Been Very Significant for Liverpool

2023/2024 Changing Red CubesThere is absolutely no reason for it logically, but a number of English football seasons ending in 3-4 – i.e. 2013/14, 1993/94, 1963/64 etc – have been pivotal in the history of Liverpool Football Club.

Will 2023/24 follow suit? Only time will tell, but the pattern since the 1953/54 season – when Liverpool were relegated to the Second Division for the first time in 50 years – has been that the campaign ending in 3-4 has been jam-packed with action and controversy.
